EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

1st Edition, 2018 (ISBN 978-3-662-56187-4)
Authors: Voigt, Paul, von dem Bussche, Axel
This practitioner’s handbook contains guidance on the practical implementation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as well as a systematic analysis of the new provisions.
The handbook addresses, among other things, organizational and material data protection requirements, the rights of data subjects, the role of supervisory authorities, enforcement and fines under the regulation, as well as national particularities. The German Data Protection Adaptation and Implementation Act EU (DSAnpUG-EU) has already been comprehensively taken into account.
In addition, the handbook provides a compact overview of the consequences of the new regulation for selected processing situations with high practical relevance, such as cloud computing, big data and the Internet of Things. The GDPR, adopted in 2016, came into force in May 2018. It provides for numerous new or enhanced data protection obligations as well as a significant increase in fines (up to 20 million euros).
Not only companies based in the European Union will therefore have to review their data protection compliance; due to the regulation’s broad, cross-border scope of application, its entry into force will have an impact on numerous companies worldwide.
